Merchant House is a luxury Villa south of Galle owned by a Scottish and British couple. One is an interior designer the other works in the finance industry. They live in Singapore and travel extensively with their work. On their travels and adventures around the world they buy pieces that they bring back by hand to furnish Merchant House with. These could be carpets bought in the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul or hand woven bed spreads bought from a sustainable charity in Calcutta, or hand woven rattan goods from Africa or craft ware and bronze from Bali. The couple have curated some quirky and unique items that are peppered throughout their home in Sri Lanka.
Over the years guests have asked to buy some of these pieces, and that’s when the MH collection came into being. Today there are all sorts of items which are hand-carried into the country by the owners and available to guests and friends of MH to buy, all have been hand-selected by the couple for their friends and guests who might like to take a piece of MH home with them for their own houses wherever they might live, in the knowledge they can easily be packed in a suitcase and are probably unlikely to come across again any time soon. The MH collection is about quality, fun and very tasteful pieces curated from the quirkiest of places all over the world.
