What began as a simple passion project between two friends has now grown into Sri Lanka’s biggest multi-brand curated retail store. Binu Wickramasinghe and Shahili Gomes opened the first Design Collective Store on 10th August 2017 in Columbo, the heart of Sri Lanka. Five years later, we have two retail locations on the island with over 100 brands, an edit dedicated to sustainable brands and an online website that ships internationally. And we couldn’t be happier!
As we turn five, we’re celebrating all the milestones we’ve achieved over the past few years while focusing on the future. From opening TDC Sustainable Edit to surviving the pandemic, there’s a lot to celebrate this year–most important of which is you. We’re looking forward to focusing on the future with you.
‘Unity’ is the theme for Sri Lanka in 2022–a concept that we have embraced. The TDC designers have been encouraged to create breathtaking pieces that represent this theme which will be showcased at our annual event. Here’s a sneak-peak at what you can expect to see.
Buddhi Batik is a Sri Lankan brand that merges the ancient technique of Batik dyeing with contemporary designs. Founder and designer behind it, Darshi Keerthisena highlights the importance of craftsmanship through it. For the first time, the brand is tying up with Button Masala, an Indian brand that creates sustainable products using buttons and rubber bands. The two brands have joined forces to create a collection that merges their different design ideologies together. Get ready to see sustainability made garments that are enhanced by Batik dyeing.
