6 Tips to Spruce Up your Home During COVID

Written by AMULYA MISRA for THE DESIGN COLLECTIVE

Have you become tired of seeing the same old interior day by day? If so, trust us, you aren’t the only one. As this global pandemic continues, people are still being encouraged to stay home and avoid crowded areas. Even though our homes may contain some of our favourite things—including our comfy beds, our warmest blankets and our beloved television, refreshing your decor a little has been proven to improve mental health and bring about some cheer.

Changing the look of your home doesn’t necessarily have to mean big changes. It could be as simple as switching out your linens or rearranging the furniture and adding simple little additions to effectively liven it up. If you’re tired and bored of having the same decor, here are six tips from us to help you bring a little life back into your space through your home accessories!

Tip 1: Add a pop of colour with some uber-comfy pillows

Not only are pillows the easiest way to bring a feeling of comfort and warmth, but they also add an instant splash of colour onto any surface they are placed upon. Simply arrange and then rearrange these perfect home accessories whenever you feel the need to revamp a room.

Tip 2: Switch out your rugs

It’s no secret that rugs pull together the furniture, the layout and the accessories of any living space. A quick and easy way to refresh a room is to bring in a new rug that ties it together. We recommend one of L’ete Indien’s gorgeous patterned ones.

Tip 3: Bring art to your walls

Have you left your home walls blank? If so, they are more likely to seem dull and boring. Add a little piece of you to your walls by investing in paintings, prints and even decorative plates that speak to you. Play around with placement and collages and we guarantee you won’t ever be bored of your walls again.

Tip 4: Invest in quirky sculptures

Sculptures make a great home accessory as they not only add accents of artistry to your decor but also can be rearranged to change the feel of a room. We recommend investing in quirky modern abstract sculptures if you’re a fan of minimalistic style and some classic brass ones for those who prefer an antique look. Browse through our selection to find the best one for you.

Tip 5: Fill your home with aromatic candles

An aspect of your home that cannot be overlooked is the smell. After spending hours upon hours cooped up in your home, it’s only natural to wish for fresh air. While that may not always be readily available, an easy way to soothe yourself is by getting your favourite aromatic candles. It also doesn’t hurt that even when not in use, they seemingly fit into any decor and if you invest in some decorative ones, can act as a statement piece too!

Tip 6: Pick up tiny houseplants

Who doesn’t love the sense of calm that plants bring? Houseplants are a quick and easy way to bring in a little bit of the outside. Add in their air purifying properties and they become a must-have for any home. For those who prefer flowers to houseplants, you can also invest in some beautiful modern vases to upgrade your decor.
