Discover Island Girl’s path to sustainability and responsibility

Perfect summer days mean putting on our bathing suits, a pair of sunglasses and heading over to the beach or your backyard to soak up some sun. But what if we told you there was a way to make this ideal summer a little greener? In the past, we’ve all been guilty of spending money on cheap accessories and clothes that lose their quality after one or two wears. If this year you’re looking for some sustainable products that are stylish, trendy and absolutely fabulous–look no further than Island Girl.

The brand was founded by Colombo-born Demi Lewis. The entrepreneur was raised in Vienna in Austria, and here she discovered her passion for design. In 2018, she launched Island Girl with the aim to create unique, seasonless products with a rebellious edge. Her goal was to spread the spirit of vacation onto the world with this tropical brand.

For the designer, fashion is all about self expression. Therefore, she aims to create unisex fashion that goes beyond the ‘normal’ neutral earth tones and shapeless silhouettes. Instead her collection focuses on creating stylish designs with an extravagant edge, created keeping the spirit of adventure in mind.

Sustainability is the future of fashion. Therefore, Island Girl uses fabrics and organic materials that are eco-friendly and kind to the skin. Their t-shirt collection is made using organic cotton that carries with it several certifications including GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard), Pete-Approved Vegan and OEKO-TEX. The raw material is sourced from Fair Wear Certified factories.

The brand continues to find new sustainable initiatives and green solutions to everyday problems. One such example is the brand’s marketing materials. They use eco-friendly, recycled paper to create flyers, postcards and more. Even their packaging is sustainable—they use recycled FSC tape that’s water-activated and soy-based inks which don’t pollute the water. They reuse boxes and tissue paper for their orders to minimize wastage–look out for their ‘I Am A Reused Box’ sticker the next time you order!

All in all, staying conscious of their environmental impact is the key to their brand philosophy. “I want my customers to feel good on all levels when they wear Island Girl,” says Demi. Simple, timeless and responsible, Island Girl’s designs are for everyone who truly loves fashion.
