Many believe that great skin is inherited and simply a matter of DNA–it’s not. Our daily habits have a great effect on it. From the environment, you live into how you choose to destress to the products you use, all impact the health of our skin. If you’re looking to build a good skincare routine, then you need to start by maintaining a balanced diet (it might be a good time to say goodbye to junk food).
The next step is to build a skincare routine using products that work for you. Everyone’s beauty regime is different; it depends on the type of skin they have. However, we have put together a comprehensive guide that walks you through the normal steps one should take to get healthy, glowing skin.
Step 1: Wash your face with warm water
We cannot stress the importance of thoroughly cleaning your face twice a day. Use a gentle cleanser and massage it all over your face while applying light pressure. Wash your wash with warm water and pat it dry with a soft towel.
Step 2: Apply toner
If you use toner, apply it after cleansing your face before using any products. Toning the skin helps remove every last bit of dirt and excess oils, while simultaneously providing hydration and gentle exfoliation.
Step 3: Use serum, face oil or facial massage balms
In the morning, use a product with antioxidants (one that contains vitamin C) because they protect your skin from the toxins you’ll face in the day. At night, opt for a moisturizing product instead.
Step 4: Gently massage your skin with facial tools
Facial tools such as gua sha and face rollers help relieve facial and jaw tension. They promote lymphatic drainage and leave behind a firm, lifting effect on the skin.
Remember: if you’re going to use tools in your skincare routine–then you must follow step 3 and apply a balm or serum in order to help it glide on your skin rather than pull!
Step 5: Put on eye cream
While you can apply moisturizer to your under-eye area, if you suffer from dark circles–then add a layer of specialized eye cream to help fight them. Apply it gently to your eye area using your finger. For those who have puffy eyes, store your roller in the fridge for a few hours and gently massage your eyes to relieve the puffiness.
Step 6: Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize.
Yes, we wrote it twice because this is a very important step that must not be skipped. Moisturizer hydrates the skin, and locks in the other layers of products you might have applied. For mornings, use a lightweight lotion with sunscreen properties, at least a SPF 30. Your nighttime routine can include a ticker night cream.
