There was once a time when the only medium to write was engraved drawings on a rock. This important medium of communication has grown with time, cultures and human needs. Today, there are many modern techniques of writing—which includes typing on your phone or laptops, voice recordings and more.
Despite all these advancements, there is a common medium that is preferred and practiced worldwide–paper and pen. From childhood, paper and pen were often the most personal, and first mediums we had to express how we felt. Whether it was writing birthday wishes for friends and family, or as we grew older, noting down our troubles in a journal. Just the simple act of putting pen to paper, and writing your feelings proved to be therapeutic for many of us.
There is just something so magical about writing, isn’t there? No matter how you feel–angry, confused, happy, sad, depressed, jealous or more, the best way to clear your thoughts, and let them out is through words. While the words noted on a paper do provide an insight into your thoughts, it’s the act of expression that releases all the pent up emotions inside of you. Countless studies have proven that writing your feelings down has calming effects on your mind. In fact, many therapists have suggested writing down your thoughts, your goals, and your frustrations as a great everyday practice to follow. They believe that the more you write, the closer you get to understanding where your feelings are coming from.
With this medium being as personal as it is, this upcoming holiday season, use the magic of writing to remind your loved ones that you’re thinking of them. Go beyond the standard holiday text or call, and instead use the power of words to show them your love and affections.
