Your Guide to an at-Home Facial for Firmer and Glowing Skin

Recent times have certainly given many of us a new self-taught skin care routine when it comes to caring for our skin at home. To ensure you’re doing a proper job, here are a few tips and tricks on how to ace your facial from home.

1. Satisfying scrub

A good scrub is always a good idea, but you can make it even better by adding some vitamin C powder (or a serum) and mixing it together and leaving it on your skin for five minutes before washing it off with lukewarm water. The effect of the vitamin C is amazing if you want that sun kissed glow.

2. Deep clean with clay

Clay masks are a great way to detox your skin and refine pores. They are also known as the vacuum-cleaner mask as clay is excellent for unclogging invisible pores. For better results, apply a warm damp face cloth to your skin  before using any type of clay mask, as this opens up the pores. If you’re using powdered clay, try adding some yogurt instead of water, as it has a gentle peeling effect resulting in squeaky clean skin.

Repeat this twice a week, as it’s the best two-step trick for detoxing and brightening dull and tired skin.

3. Massage

Working from home would have built up a lot of tension, we suggest you use facial oil to massage your skin to relax your muscles . Focus on your jawline in particular, as you get a lot of tension there. Using your knuckles work up along the jawline and into the muscle as this is where we hold all the tension. Next using your index and middle fingers – open them up in a V-shape, like scissors and slide them from the chin to under your ears, where your lymph nodes are located. Keep in mind to always have a light touch because if you’re too heavy-handed, you won’t drain away any of the puffiness.

4. Use a Gua Sha

A Gua Sha is a great tool for reducing puffiness in the face. It relaxes the muscles, therefore getting the energy and blood flowing. It boosts the circulation which takes away toxins and brings in oxygen and nutrients. You can run it outwards along the jawline and cheekbones and work it right in to release those tight muscles in the jaw. If you feel like going all out to release the built up tension you could also use the Gua Sha on your scalp and body. It’s also a good idea to keep them in the fridge so you can use them chilled on a hot day!

5. Up your hydration game

Water hydrates the skin and oils nourish it. Don’t get confused between the two, as all skin types need more water. Therefore use a moisturiser as your mask, but apply it in a much thicker layer and leave it on for 20 minutes – this is also a great way to tighten your skin. The cream doesn’t have to be super-rich. The OPHIR cream is good for all skin types. Once left on, you can then massage it in, or tissue off what’s left on your skin. Start doing this as it can make a big difference in your skin.

6. Don’t forget your hands and feet

While you wait for your mask, don’t forget to treat your hands and feet! Mix up some sugar and a few drops of body oil , and massage it into your hands and feet as a scrub. This will leave your skin feeling gentle and the oil leaves your skin beautifully nourished.
